Last month we saw the movie "Peter Pan" based on the novel of J. M. Barrie. 

It was amazing because in the film there is action but also love and friendship.

Halloween in our classroom!

Halloween is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31st . 

It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints. The term derives from “All Hallows Eve” that means “eve of All Saints’ Day”.

Halloween was a pagan festival, people thought that the living and the dead, came in contact on that night. Like most pagan festivals, long ago it was absorbed into the festivals of the expanding Christian church, and became associated with All Hallows Day, or All Saints Day, which fell on November 1st. The celebration of Halloween survived most strongly in Ireland. It was the end of summer festival, and was often celebrated in each community with a bonfire to ward off the evil spirits. Children would go from door to door in disguise as creatures from the underworld to collect treats, mainly fruit or nuts.  

Carving turnips as ghoulish faces to hold candles became a popular part of the festival, which has been adapted to carving pumpkins in America. Nowadays this festival is celebrated in many western countries.

This year we celebrated Halloween learning some rhymes, making some masks... and Francesco even made a beautiful Jack-o'-lantern!! Thank you, Francesco!

Our study - tour in England!

Hi guys! We' re back! 

This is our first post of the new school year and we want to talk about our study tour!

In July we went to England! We stayed 2 days in London and 8 days at Keele University Campus. It was amazing!

School is almost over! Let' s go on holiday!

School is over!! It has been a long year... full of good and sometimes bad things! We have learned a lot of things! But now we are tired! We deserve a great holiday!

I am going to the sea... I love swimming and sunbathing!

Our study-tour in England! Our teacher' s suggestions

Hello guys! Some of you are coming to England with me next month. How do you feel? Excited? Anxious? Worried?

First of all let' s see the reasons why this experience will be so important.

Why are Study Tours so important?

International study tours are a great opportunity  to combine an overseas travel and cultural experience with studies focusing on the language. Study tours emphasise experiential learning and allow students to explore new territories, cultures and people. They combine theory with real-life experience and cultural perspective.

By studying abroad you will:

1. Meet new friends from around the world.
2. Gain new perspectives on things they normally wouldn't have.
3. Improve a foreign language and learn a few things they didn't already know.
4. Learn to be more independent.
5. Immerse themselves in a completely different culture.

Below I am trying to answer some of your questions.

Will I find it too difficult?

You can always ask for help, teachers and college staff will be always there for you.

When you learn English in an English-speaking country, you will have to use English in everyday life and this is  a very quick way to learn. You will learn in a real environment. This is a authentic education!

Will a different culture be a problem for me?

Being in a different country and having to learn different ways of behaving could be a little difficult at the beginning, but remember:  studying  and travelling abroad broadens your horizons and gives you the opportunity to know different cultures. In today’s increasingly global society, it’s very important to possess the skills to communicate across cultures.

Will it be useful for my future?

It will be very important for  your CV.

Employers look for applicants who can speak English and had some experience abroad. The fact  that you went to an English speaking country and used the language in a real context will make a really good impression. Moreover, you will get a certificate that will be very important for your CV.

Will it change my life?

You will never forget the new experience and the international friends you will make. Moreover, you will become more independent and responsible, in fact travelling without your family is a chance for you to learn to fend for yourself and to manage your own finances.

The United Kingdom

This year we studied the United Kingdom.

The UK is made up of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.Great Britain is made up of England, Wales and Scotland.

The UK is between the North Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea, and it is separated by northwest coast of France by the English Channel. The Channel Tunnel, beneath the English Channel, now links the UK with France.

The capital of England and of the UK is London. It is built on the River Thames.

The UK Landscape is very varied. Scotland and Wales are the most mountainous parts of the UK. The Pennine, runs down the centre of northern England, but most of the UK is made up of  hills.

The Uk's climate is very changeable because of the surrounding sea. The main influence on British climate is the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, the northern latitude, and the warming of the waters around the land by the Gulf Stream (a warm current of the northern Atlantic Ocean).

In general there are warm summers and cool winters. However,  summers are cooler than those on the continent and winters are milder.
